Ballinalacken Castle Hotel, Coast Rd., Doolin,
Co. Clare, tel./fax 065-707-4025; e-mail: ballinalackencastle@eircom.net.
Although this small hotel is not a castle, it does sit on the grounds of
a 15th century castle originally owned by the O'Briens. Over 160 years ago,
it was acquired by the O'Callaghan family whose descendents now operate
it as a 3-star country inn hotel with restaurant and bar. It is situated
2 miles north of Doolin on the R. 477 coast road, so it enjoys lovely views
in a peaceful setting not far from the summer traffic of Doolin. The 12
guestrooms are outfitted with all the modern comforts such as TV, phone
and hairdryer, while the public areas reflect an earlier era with antiques,
heirlooms and open hearths including a Connemara marble fireplace. Guests
are permitted to climb the old castle tower steps for panoramic views of
the countryside and sea. Closed: November - early-April. €€
