Bunratty Castle Hotel, Bunratty, Co. Clare, tel. 061-478700; fax 061-364891; e-mail: info@bunrattycastlehotel.com. In spite of the "Castle" in its name, this hotel is not a castle, nor does it pretend to be, but it is the shining star of Bunratty accommodations. Everyone wants to stay here, and for many good reasons. Situated on high ground directly across from Bunratty Castle and the legendary Durty Nelly's Pub, this 3-star hotel blends an 18th century manor house with two harmonious wings of 80 rooms that offer every 21st century convenience including air conditioning, internet access, and ice machines in the halls. Facilities include a state-of-the-art leisure centre, restaurant/pub and the wildly popular (with locals as well as visitors) Bunratty Village Mills shopping village which is located at the foot of the hotel grounds. Closed: 24 - 26 December. €€ to €€€ Web site: www.bunrattycastlehotel.com Bunratty Manor, Main St., Bunratty, Co., Clare, tel. 061-707984; fax 061-360-588; e-mail: bunrattymanor@eircom.net. When this purpose-built lodging opened in April of 2000, it started as a B&B. Because of its central location and excellent facilities, it was quickly upgraded to a full-service hotel. The traditional-style décor includes antiques, equestrian-themed art, warming fireplaces, and festive pastel tones. The 20 spacious guest rooms offer the usual hotel amenities plus unique extras such as welcome drinks, free access for international phone calling cards, computer dataport, and coffee-tea-maker. In addition, there is an ice machine for guest use and a restaurant for evening meals and an outdoor patio for summer barbecues. Closed: December 20 - January 31. €€ Web site: www.bunrattymanor.ie
